The Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve is a privately owned Gauteng game reserve, covering on average 1 200 hectares of land. This Gauteng game reserve is located in the 'Cradle of Humankind', a declared World Heritage Site, central to Johannesburg and Pretoria. The reserve was founded in 1985 with the aim of conserving the area for leisure. The reserve had a modest beginning of only 2 white Rhino. The reserve now features over 600 head of game and up to 30 species of wildlife. Due to public demand to visit the game reserve, the name was changed from 'Kiepersol' to 'Rhino Park' in 1990 and the public were allowed to visit. A lot of attention was put on animal breeding and the success of this project is best illustrated by the 18 new white Rhino calves and a number of new wildlife species. Despite many factors such as climate affecting breeding patterns, the reserve still made an effort to allow for a wildlife experience in Gauteng. The Rhino and Lion park right here in Gauteng is an exquisite nature reserve that forms part of South Africa’s top five attractions to visit.
